When storing your motorcycle when it's not in use, there are a few things to consider! You want to store it correctly to improve its lifespan and protect your investment. Our team at Maxey’s Motorsports is here to help you throughout your motorcycle journey, so we’ve put together a few quick tips for storing your motorcycle.

1. Find the Right Location

Storing your bike outdoors can leave it exposed to rain, snow, and dirt which can damage the paint and other components of your bike. So, the first thing you should do is make sure you store it somewhere protected from the elements! Even if storing your motorcycle indoors isn’t an option, you can look for a breathable yet waterproof cover.

2. Prepare the Space and Bike

If storing inside, make sure the area is clean and free from dust or debris that could settle on the bike during storage. It's also best practice to cover any parts where moisture might collect (e.g., around the exhaust) with plastic wrap to prevent rusting during prolonged storage periods.

Before storing, it's important to clean your bike thoroughly. This will help prevent corrosion and rusting while in storage and make the process of getting it ready for riding again much easier.

Another thing to do is consider storing the motorcycle on its kickstand instead of its tires to protect them and reduce the risk of damage.

3. Theft Prevention

If storing outside, invest in a good quality motorcycle lock to protect against theft or vandalism. Make sure the chain or cable is as long as possible so that you can secure your bike to something sturdy like a pole or fence post. If you’re storing your bike inside, make sure to lock up the garage or shed you’re using.
